A brief description of classes offered:

 

  • Active Games:   Learn some new games and ideas to get your school agers active and learning. **
  • Adventures in Learning and Discovering:  Develop an understanding of school age curriculums and how to incorporate them into your program.
  • Age Appropriate Activities:  This session will provide you with new activities and ideas to use with your children that are age appropriate.  **
  • Books with Infants and Toddlers:  This presentation will deal with the importance of books in programming for very young children and how to use them effectively.  Each participant will make a sample book for their classroom.  **
  • Challenging Behavior:  High Energy Children:  "This child goes full blast from the minute he arrives.  There is NO down time.  Is this much energy normal?  Does this child have ADHD?"  Does this describe a child in your child care setting?  Are these questions you have been pondering?  Join us in a discussion of "high energy" children.  What makes some children so much more energetic than others?  How can you funnel this "high energy" into positive energy?  Does "high energy" result in challenging behavior?  What are those behaviors and what is the best way to deal with them?
  • Child Care Scheduling and Lesson Planning:  Learn to develop age appropriate schedules and lesson plans that will work for you, your class and your consultant.  **
  • Children with Attention and Learning Disorders in the Child Care Setting:  Learn ways to identify with attention and learning disorders.  Where should families be referred to if an attention or learning disorder is suspected and how can you modify your curriculum and physical environments to meet the needs of these children?
  • Classroom Creations:  Create unique and exciting toys and props to help children learn in age appropriate ways.  This toy making workshop will have you looking at everyday items in a whole new way.**
  • Creative Activities for 3's, 4's, and 5's:  This class will help providers to learn to incorporate different activities into their weekly themes.  Activities such as making their own sock puppets, flannel stories and musical materials will be discovered.  **  This class is also taught for Infants and Toddlers.
  • Creative Curriculum:  This training will guide you through the use of the Creative Curriculum for Preschool in the classroom.  ^^Can be several sessions^^
  • Designing School-Age Programs and Schedules:  How do you juggle homework time, outside time, and free play time into just a few hours?  This session will help you with all your scheduling needs.
  • Developing School-Age Centers on a Limited Budget:  This session will offer you a lot of new ideas to incorporate into your classrooms with out emptying out the piggy bank.  **
  • Environment Rating Scales:  If you are continuing to reach for the stars, then this training is a must.  Learn how to improve your early childhood environment with the Environment Rating Scales.  This informative session will help you understand how the scales work and how you can use the scales to improve your child care setting.  l also teach the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scales and School Age Environment Rating Scales.  **
  • Explore the World of Science:  Come and explore the world of science.  Learn how to make all new science items for your classroom from lava tubes to take home aquariums.  **
  • Exploring Science in the Pre K Classroom:  This workshop will inspire teachers of all ages to use everyday household products to make science projects both developmentally appropriate and inexpensive. **
  • Family Day Care Rating Scales:  If you are continuing to reach for the stars this training is a must.  Learn how to improve your family child care environment with the Family Day Care Rating Scales.  This informative session will help you understand how the scales work and how you can use the scales to improve your Family Child Care Home.  **
  • Food and Nutrition:  Make food and nutrition fun so that even the pickest eaters will be interested.
  • Holiday Fun:  Learn how to incorporate all the holidays into daycare, from Kwanzza, Cinco DeMayo, Hanukkah, Mother's Day, Fourth of July and all the holidays on the calendar.  **  (This class is offered in several classes to cover holidays indepth.)
  • Homework in After School:  Homework is a vital piece in after school programs.  This training will cover options that are avaliable to you for assisting with homework, while not burning out the children and teachers.
  • Inclusion of Children with Special Needs: Whether in a child care center or a family child care home, this workshop helps on how to take the basic steps to include special needs children in a child care setting.  How to help families of special needs children to provide appropriate care and settings in their home away from home.
  • Infant and Toddler Activities:  This workshop will inspire teachers to make materials and activities for infants and toddlers that are both developmentally appropriate and inexpensive to make.  **
  • Is Your Classroom Math Rich:  Learn how to incorporate math into all of the activity areas in your classroom and other everyday activities to make your classroom a "Math Rich" environment.
  • Multicultural Activities in the Classroom:  This session will bring you many new ideas to incorporate a variety of cultural awareness activities into your everyday curriculum.
  • Nuts about Nutrition:   This training will give providers ideas to help incorporate nutrition into their curriculum.  Ideas will include several areas of the classroom to help broaden teachers and children's nutritional knowledge.
  • Out & About Math:  This training will help providers learn new ways to incorporate math into their daily curriculum.  **
  • Outdoor Learning Environments:  Enhance outdoor play environments to include learning curriculum outdoors.
  • Playground Science:  Since science is all around us, it can easily be taught on the playground!  Teachers will learn simple ways to create outdoor learning areas right in their backyard or play yard.  Through gardens, birdfeeders and butterfly areas, children can continuously learn science and develop their skills of discovery and investigation.
  • Preschool Art: Creating Rooms of Wonder:  This valuable training will provide providers with many fun new activities to take back to the classroom.  It will emphasize the value of art activities in the preschool years.
  • Program Resources via the WWW:  This session will help you locate and use educational and other resources via the internet.  (This class should be held in a computer lab, usually through community college.)
  • School-Agers Loveable but Challenging:  Learn some positive strategies to help afternoon conflicts subside and help make after school more relaxing and fun for everyone.
  • Science is Simple:  Like learning to count or read, understanding the fascinating world of science is an essential skill.  Watch preschoolers develop essential observational and analytical skills as they eagerly jump into the hands on, interactive process that is science.  **
  • Using Music Creatively in the Classroom:  This session will provide you with many new music ideas to use in the classroom for transitions, active play and curriculum enhancement.
